Meet Our Staff


Richard M Jacobson, DVM
Originally from Staten Island, Dr. Jacobson is a 1975 graduate of the Univesity of Bologna College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Jacobson took over the reins of Farmingville Animal Hospital in 1981. Since then the hospital has developed into a multi-person, progressive small animal hospital.

Dr. Jacobson has served as president of the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association and has represented Long Island on the executive board of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society. Currently he serves on the advisory board to the Veterinary Technician program at Suffolk Community College. He was honored in 1995 by the LIVMA as Veterinarian of the Year.

Dr. Jacobson and his wife, Janet have 2 children and they are now enjoying their first grandchild. In his free time he can be found on the golf course or kayking down the Nissequogue River.

Dennis A Zawie, DVM, Dip ACVIM
Dr. Zawie is co-owner of the Farmingville Animal Hospital. He was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1976.

Dr. Zawie completed an internship and residency at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. He became board certified in internal medicine, specializing in gastroenterology and endoscopy. Before joining Dr. Jacobson at FAH, he was Head, Department of Gastroenterology at the Animal Medical Center.

He has lectured both nationally and internationlly. He is the author of numerous scientific articles and book chapters.

Dr. Zawie and his wife, Lynn have three children. His son, Stephen followed in his footsteps and is a veterinarian in NYC. Dr. Zawie has followed in his daughter's footsteps by taking up horseback riding.

Lisa Palermo, DVM
Dr. Palermo graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has been practicing small animal medicine and surgery for over 15 years. She joined Farmingville Animal Hospital 11 years ago where she immediately became an important part of the FAH family. She is appreciated by clients, patients and staff alike. She balances veterinary medicine with being a hockey mom for her son, Dylan. If there is any spare time left she enjoys volleyball, bowling and interior design.

Robin Robbins, DVM
Dr. Robins hails from Long Island. Originally a middle school teacher, she decided to pursue her passion for animals by becoming a veterinarian. She graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993 and has been a valued member of the staff of FAH since 1997. She and her husband are officianatos of classic muscle cars and enjoy fishing, camping and hiking.

Crystal Gooss, DVM
Dr. Gooss is a native New Yorker born and raised in Queens. She received her DVM degree from Kansas State in 1997. Dr. Gooss is an avid runner and has participated in several marathons including the 2008 NYC marathon. She is recently married and both her and her husband enjoy camping, fishing, biking and other outdoor activities. Dr. Gooss keeps busy caring for her 5 senior pets including 3 cats and 2 dogs.

Regan Casey, DVM
Dr. Casey attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical training at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She received her DVM degree in 2007 and loves working with all the patients and clients at FAH. Dr. Casey lives with her three dogs, Sebastian, Tarzan and Lady. Her free time is spend caring for and riding her horse, Tucker.
